Both will get you your order at the same time. That said: Kickstarter takes an 8-10% cut from our orders and adds some complication for order management. If you order through our website, you also have the ability to instantly cancel your order at any time for a refund.
Orders ship in waves, first in first out. Your confirmation email tells you which wave you are in and its target month. You can check your wave any time in your account.
Yes, any time before your order ships. Your order creates a record in the Zerowriter portal where you can swap your enclosure, switches, and keycaps. Swapping to a more expensive option is invoiced for the difference.
Yes. Zerowriter Fold creates plain text .txt and .md files, compatible with any modern operating system. Write on the Fold, then transfer your files to any computer. No drivers, no proprietary software.
The keyboard uses Choc v1 switches. They are user-replaceable and hot-swappable, no soldering required. Dozens of Choc-compatible switches are available with a range of typing profiles.
Zerowriter Fold runs on Zerowriter Core, written in Arduino and releasing as open source. It means that even if the company is not around someday, people can still build, modify, and develop for the Zerowriter Fold. Your work stays secure and stable.
Because we would only be guessing. Carrier pricing, tariffs, and VAT rules keep moving, and your Zerowriter Fold ships months from now. Rather than quote a number today and get it wrong, we invoice shipping and any tax separately before your wave ships, once we can price them properly. You will get an email with a payment link. This is the same way Kickstarter backers are handled.
We ship from Canada. Nothing is added at checkout. Sales tax and VAT are added by hand to the invoice you get before your Zerowriter Fold ships, so the amount reflects the rules in force at that time rather than a guess made months earlier. Import duties, where your country charges them, are collected on delivery. For rough planning, shipping runs about 15 to 40 USD depending on where you are, and European customers should expect VAT of roughly 19 to 25 percent on top.
Zerowriter Fold only really uses power when you type. Your writing pace, screen refresh settings, and brightness all affect battery life. A slow, thoughtful writer with the screen light off sees very different numbers than someone working away with the frontlight on full.
No. Your Kickstarter pledge is managed in the pledge portal and already covers your Zerowriter Fold. Ordering here would buy a second unit.
